PEDvolution is excited to announce the launch of its Open Call for Positive Energy Districts (PEDs)! This initiative seeks to accommodate the constant evolution of PEDs across Europe, by developing interoperable tools which will contribute towards evaluating and improving the PED Readiness Level of neighborhoods and districts.  

We invite municipalities, energy communities, and urban developers across Europe to collaborate with us in piloting and validating cutting-edge energy solutions.

Who Can Apply?

The call is open to a wide range of stakeholders involved in the development and operation of PEDs, including:

Public and Private Organizations

  • Municipalities and local authorities leading PED projects, urban planning, and sustainable energy transitions.
  • Energy utilities and DSOs managing local energy networks, district heating systems, and grid operations.
  • SMEs and start-ups providing innovative energy solutions, digital services, or sector-coupling technologies.
  • Large enterprises and industrial players with surplus energy, industrial waste heat, or renewable energy integration potential.

Research and Innovation Entities

  • Universities and research institutions focusing on energy, sustainability, and smart city innovations.
  • Technology providers developing PED-related digital solutions, energy optimization tools, or hardware components.

Community and Citizen-Driven Initiatives

  • Energy cooperatives, prosumers, and local communities engaged in self-consumption and collective energy management.
  • Housing associations and building owners integrating renewable energy, storage, or smart grid solutions.

 

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements:

  • Be a legal entity established in an EU Member State, Associated Country, or other eligible country as defined by the European Commission.
  • Be the legal or authorized representative of the PED applicant.
  • Belong to one of the following categories: SMEs, startups, research organizations, municipalities.
  • Comply with Horizon Europe rules on financial support to third parties.

Application Types

Applicants can apply as:

  • Single Entities: Standalone organizations such as municipalities, SMEs, technology providers, or DSOs, proposing to test and validate PEDvolution solutions.
  • Pilot Groups or Consortiums: Collaborations between two or more entities (e.g., municipalities, SMEs, DSOs) working together to integrate PEDvolution tools effectively.
  • Existing or Emerging PEDs: PEDs at different stages (operational, implementation, or planning) aiming to enhance their energy performance and interoperability.
